Evaluating strengths, surfacing blind spots, prioritizing development.

FountainBlue’s Soft Skills Assessment is the dedicated coaching assessment for leaders and professionals navigating growth, transition, and change. It combines self‑reflection, stakeholder input, and selected external tools to create a clear, evidence‑based picture of your leadership, management, emotional intelligence, and team‑dynamics strengths and gaps. It integrates both quantitative and qualitative measures so you leave with more than a personality label — you leave with a grounded, actionable profile of how you lead today and where to focus next. It is often the first step in our coaching, Leadership Certification, and What’s Next programs.
What the assessment is
Our assessment is not a single test or personality label. It is a structured intake and analysis that we build with you, using:
- A customized self‑assessment grounded in your real role and context
- Manager or stakeholder input when appropriate
- Targeted use of external tools (e.g., team‑dynamics and leadership‑strengths assessments)
- A comparison of your self‑reported baseline against simple, trackable before/after measures
The result is a concise, evidence‑based profile of how you lead today, where you want to go, and what to focus on next — combining quantitative ratings and trackable before/after measures with the qualitative context and human judgment that numbers alone cannot capture.
What we measure

We focus on the soft‑skill areas that most often drive real‑world results for your role and organization, measuring each through a combination of self‑reported ratings, stakeholder input, and selected external tools so the picture is both honest and multidimensional.
- Leadership – How you envision, communicate, connect, and empower stakeholders to progress shared goals and deliver measurable outcomes (vision, communication, agility and resilience, growth mindset, stakeholder management, alignment, and inspiration).
- Management – How you work with stakeholders to envision, plan, execute, and deliver results (problem‑solving, planning, decision‑making, delegation, and multitasking).
- Emotional Intelligence – How you understand and manage your own emotions and the emotions of people around you (self‑awareness, self‑regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills).
- Team Dynamics – How you contribute to and shape the way teams interact, communicate, cooperate, and collaborate (collaboration, empowerment, engagement, conflict management).
- Difference‑Maker – How you create measurable impact for the organization, for the people you lead, and for the customers and partners you serve.
Depending on your goals, we incorporate quantitative indicators linked to real business outcomes — such as team sentiment, retention, cross‑team collaboration, or decision‑making and meeting effectiveness — so your development work stays connected to what the organization actually needs to see improve.
How the process works
The assessment process is designed to be thorough but lightweight, so it supports your work rather than adding noise.
- Context and goals
We start with a brief conversation and intake to understand your role, responsibilities, stakeholders, and the questions you are asking about your leadership. - Baseline self‑assessment
You complete a structured self‑assessment—typically via our shared intake template and online tools—rating yourself across key leadership, management, emotional‑intelligence, and team‑dynamics dimensions. - Manager and stakeholder input (optional)
Where appropriate, we invite your manager and/or selected stakeholders to offer a baseline view using the same categories and space for qualitative comments. - Targeted external tools (optional)
When it will add value, we recommend and help you use proven external assessments (for example, leadership strengths tests, personality profiles, team‑dynamics tools, or trust/relationship assessments) and integrate their insights into your profile. - Synthesis and profile
We synthesize the data into a concise, visual profile that highlights your strongest capabilities, your stretch areas, and patterns across leadership, management, emotional intelligence, and team dynamics. - Debrief and next steps
In a dedicated debrief session, we walk through your profile, discuss what resonates, and identify 3–5 focused areas where coaching, certification work, or experiments in your current role will have the greatest payoff.
What you receive
Every client receives:
- A clear, written baseline profile of how you currently lead and manage across the five soft‑skill categories above
- A simple comparison structure you can reuse over time — self‑baseline vs. post‑coaching, manager baseline vs. post‑coaching, and selected quantitative indicators — so progress is visible and trackable
- Specific recommendations on where to focus next, such as development priorities, suggested coaching themes, web apps or tools to explore, and experiments to try in your current role
Optional add‑ons can include a short summary formatted for your manager or HR partner, focusing on development themes and outcomes rather than confidential coaching content.
Supporting web apps

The Soft Skills Assessment is supported by FountainBlue’s coaching web apps, which help clients go deeper between sessions. Scenarios in Context helps individuals think through the strategic, operational, and people dimensions of situations they are navigating before coaching conversations. Challenges to Opportunities helps clients reframe professional and organizational pressures as growth opportunities. Humans Over and In the Loop builds the judgment needed to lead effectively in human-AI environments through 108 realistic scenarios.
Where the assessment fits in
Leadership Assessment can stand alone, or it can serve as an entry point into other FountainBlue offerings:
- Coaching onboarding – Many clients complete an assessment at the start of a coaching engagement and then repeat key elements later to track progress.
- Leadership Certification – Assessment results help you decide which certification level (Clarity, Initiative, Resilience, Impact) to begin with and what to emphasize in your assignments.
- What’s Next – When you’re in transition, the assessment clarifies who you are as a leader now and what “next” might require from you.
- Consulting – Some assessments surface questions about market shifts, technology, innovation, or global trends that naturally lead into consulting conversations and engagements.
- Web Apps – Based on your results, we can recommend specific web apps, experiments, and tools to support your leadership and innovation work in your current role.
If you already know which program interests you most, we can tailor the assessment to that context from the start.

Stack-Rank Your Workforce Development
FountainBlue’s Stack-Rank Your Leadership Development web app helps leaders compare four possible development priorities and identify which area appears most likely to create meaningful value across short-term and long-term market, financial, operational, and people impact.
Users select four priorities across three categories and rank each one from 1 to 4 against short-term and long-term market, financial, operational, and people criteria. The app provides a structured, business-focused way to compare leadership and management development choices, supported by evidence, scoring, and the flexibility to introduce additional priorities when needed.
The app also guides users in gathering evidence, testing assumptions, identifying gaps, and reflecting on what the rankings are really saying. Its findings can inform organizational performance, execution quality, decision-making, readiness for change, and the human realities of trust, adoption, and oversight.
